West condensers are designed with a 110 mm to 300mm long jacket that has a Standard Taper top joint.
What is the West condenser?
West condensers are a thinner version of the Liebig condenser with a cone and socket that allows for the increased flow rate of water to provide high cooling efficiency.
West condensers are efficient at cooling because they have a narrow annular space between the fused-on coolant jacket and inner tube.
West condensers typically have a lower inner drip tip joint and a standard taper outer joint, with a water hose connected to the condenser’s bottom. Water then exits the condenser through a hose connected to the top. The water, because it is contained in a sealed tube, does not come in direct contact with any vapor being condensed.
It is designed with standard taper joints at both ends, and two glass hose connections or removable hose connections as the inlet and outlet of the coolant liquid.
Made of high-quality borosilicate glass 3.3 having very low coefficients of thermal expansion for resistance to heat and a very high resistance to chemical attack. Annealed at 800 degrees Celsius, can be heated directly in an open flame and can withstand typical laboratory thermal variations in Chemistry processes like heating and cooling.
Widely Used
A west condenser can be used in reflux and a distillation apparatus. In the reflux apparatus, just as the graham condenser, Dimroth condenser, coiled condenser, and Liebig condenser does, it works with a round bottom flask, drying tube, separatory funnel or additional funnel. In the distillation apparatus, it is used to condense the vapor into liquid and drip to a receiving flask with a take-off adapter.
